Then after u ran game with that disable steam cloud synchronization in steam options except for when you download new workshop items until things are resolved.
That last save did not save properly, so it is causing this error.
Go into your My Documents folder, My Games,
Assault Squad 2 folder, profiles folder, save, and delete autosave1.
Then try to play the game.
autosaves1, 2, 3 etc get repeated every game. It is the way the game numbers them.
Maybe it has come back because you are playing a game again and an autosave happens
and therefore it is the first 1 so it will be called autosave1.
Maybe you should try lowering the games graphics options so your computer’s brain has a better chance of being able to save properly without corruption.
Then you can slowly turn up your graphics to test how far your computer is capable.
It will differ from game to game like less battle to intense battles.
