Hey guys. I just purchased and installed Dark Reign + Expansion. I attempted to launch the game but the game doesn’t load at all. Instead, I’m greeted with the following error message:

Specifically: The system cannot find the file specified

I have no idea what any of this means but it’s preventing me from playing the game. I click on the DKREIGN.EXE directly but playing through this method requires a CD. I downloaded the 1.7 patch but my Anti Virus program flagged several viruses so I deleted it right away.

Has anyone come across this problem? Is there a simple fix to the issue?

PS: I’m using Windows XP.

I’m playing the GOG version as well; I’m not using the 1.7 patch. 1.7 «patch» is actually the entire game with a crack installed. I’d download the «patch» except my anti-virus detects malware within it.

When I open DKREIGN.EXE, there’s a message that pops up, asking me if I have the CD. I click «no» and then I get the opening cutscene. The game progesses as far as the main menu. I click «single player» and the game tells me to insert the CD. I wait for about a whole minute and nothing happens.

After some «Google» Action, I couldn´t find a real solution, so I checked my DR Settings.

I don´t think, that it will solve the issue, but did you try different compatibility modes?

My DR shortcut, is in win98 comp mode, with high dpi disabled.

Just tried it. Didn’t work so I guess I’m screwed. I have to contact the support staff to see if they have any solutions.

SOLVED! For those in a hurry, drop to a command prompt, cd to \Windows\System32 and type:

copy tskill.exe taskkill.exe

That’s it! XP Home does not have TASKKILL.EXE, which is apparently used by the launcher to kill Internet Explorer if it is running. No idea why, but there it is. Since XP Home does not have TASKKILL.EXE, the script fails, and the launcher exits with an error. By copying the similar, but oddly named TSKILL.EXE, you give the script something that runs, and it is happy. Not sure if it will kill IE windows, but I don’t really care, the game runs now. Other versions of XP, and later versions like Vista, Win7, Win8/8.1, etc all have the TASKKILL command, and so have no problems.

Я X3 как это работает и там где я нашел тоже самое написано но нужно открыть командную строку с правами админа и прописать команды по очереди. (делал на 7-ке крякнутой)
И игра заработала сразу.

What am I doing wrong here? This file (and others it reports) are definitely on my system in that specific folder with that exact name. It used to launch fine. Now it doesn’t for no reason. (Thanks!)

It only works when I completely exit AHK and re-enter. It doesn’t seem to be reloading the script. Here’s the top:

Run, «C:\Program Files\Nortel Networks\blabla.exe»

Actually the quotes shouldn’t be necessary in this case, but it it makes it work that would be interesting.

You might want to check each Run line for invisible or unexpected characters. Perhaps retype each line by hand to ensure it’s pure. Also, the script should be saved as a plain ANSI text file rather than some other format such as Unicode.

If the problem persists, this might be a PC-specific problem. To find out, perhaps you could try the script on some other PC that has similar software installed.

Mass Effect Failing to Launch, files missing.

Hello, I recently installed the MEUITM remaster in Mass Effect 1, and it completely broke my game, so I went into my files and removed MEUITM from my computer, but my backed up version of Vanilla Mass Effect will not launch. I have verified the game files, still crashes. I have completely removed the game from my computer, still crashes after fresh reinstall. Not even deleting the engine folder in documents fixed the game crashing. Everytime I launch the game, I get this error message when it crashes. It crashes the SECOND it starts up, with this message:

Закройте, перезапустите и обновите Rockstar Games Launcher

Если у вас запущена какая-либо игра Rockstar Games, выйдите из нее
Закройте Rockstar Games Launcher
Перезапустите Rockstar Games Launcher и установите соответствующие обновления
Если вышеперечисленные действия не утранили ошибку, пожалуйста, выполните следующие шаги:

Удалите Rockstar Games Launcher

Если у вас запущена какая-либо игра Rockstar Games, выйдите из нее
Перейдите в установочную папку Rockstar Games Launcher
По умолчанию: C:\Program Files\Rockstar Games\Launcher
Дважды щелкните по файлу uninstall.exe и удалите Rockstar Games Launcher
Не ставьте отметку в поле «Удалить игровые данные» (Uninstall game data)
Удалите оставшиеся файлы Rockstar Games Launcher и Social Club

После того как процедура удаления будет завершена, удалите все нижеперечисленные папки:
ПРИМЕЧАНИЕ: не удаляйте другие папки или файлы, иначе вы можете потерять сохраненные игры или другие важные данные.
