Updated for Fallout 4 version 1.10.163

The Full Dialogue Interface mod replaces some files in the data/strings folder in order to function. With the recent update 1.10.2 you will find that some of the new Creation Club content will have LOOKUP FAILED! instead of the proper name. This mod will replace the strings with updated versions to correct the issue.

Thanks for the positive comments and endorsements, I really appreciate them! 🙂

Download the latest version of the mod from the files tab

Or if you really want to: see the guide below on how to create your own string files, (thanks to Crimsomrider for the original text)

Here’s how to fix LOOKUP FAILED errors.

— Download xTranslator from the Nexus
— Extract it wherever you want
— Go to your Fallout 4 folder > DATA > STRINGS and find the following string files:

— Move them somewhere else, preferably the desktop for the moment.
— Open the program (xTranslator.exe) and select Fallout 4

— The «Set Options and Languages» window should show up on the first run of the program,
— (if not, it’s in Options > Dictionaries and Languages) Here, Change the destination language to EN and click OK

-After the process, delete the outdated string files from the desktop that you moved from the DATA folder and you’re done.

Lookup failed

Fallout 4

What Never did? You only have 0.5 hours/30 minutes into the game.

This is usually a mod issue. You SURE you don’t have mods?

Do you play on survival-difficulty?

He hasn’t played the game yet. He hasn’t even had time to get out of the vault.

To fix it, try to verify the game-cache via Steam. I had this issue too, when the Survival-difficulty update came out and that fixed it.

Sorry, I wasn’t aware it can happen when on Survival. I’ve only heard of it with a modded game.

I’m on normal difficulty and already verified the game cache twice

After it’s finished start the game through Steam and the launcher should set the graphics again for your system, edit the settings if you want to and close the launcher again.

Now go back to C:\Users\username\Documents\My Games, there should be a new Fallout4-folder now. In the new folder, open Fallout4.ini with a text-editor and replace everything in the [Archive]-section with this:

This is my [Archive]-section and I don’t have this issue. See if it works.

Фоллаут 4 lookup failed как исправить

I have been searching this topic up for quite some time, trying to find a fix. I’ve verified the game cache, I reinstalled the game, I have absolutely NO mods installed. I have deleted the /strings folder, and removed the /STRINGS line in the ini.

This is not fun to try and deal with, as every aspect of the game, except the main menu, comes up with the «Lookup Failed» error. I wouldn’t be so angry over this, if I got to actually go through one run, before it hit the fan like this.

Search your PC for «Fallout 4» and delete everything it finds except your saves folder. Get rid of all the configs and caches and what not and just leave behind any folder called ‘saves’ or ‘saved games’.

People think uninstalling a game cleans it from your system, but these days it does not, it just removes the actual game but leaves behind all of the configs, logs, preference files, cache files and a myriad of other nonsensical chuff in places like public/appdata/local/Fallout 4 or documents/Fallout 4 and more often than not the problem is due to an error that has popped up in a config file or a shader cache or whatnot.

When I am forced to reinstall something I remove every trace of it I can find except for saved games. That way when you reinstall it it is a truly virgin install instead of a new install which just finds the damaged file and generates the same error or crash.

^^ pro tip, very useful when installing new hardware and you don’t want config files lying around with hardcoded settings designed to utilise your old hardware.

it fixed the Lookup failed for me

its a collection of ‘fixed’ english strings in addition to fixing various typos among other things it also fixed the «Lookup Failed» error when other methods failed

You cannot look up or your game keeps to lock up?

Lookup Failed Fix FO4 V1.7

I ran into this issue after patch 1.7 and did a lot of a searching to find the right fix.

I finally found this on a different mod site in their post about the 1.7 update patch.

So, I deleted the strings folder from /fallout 4/data.

As I install all my mods manually I went and edited the Fallout4.ini file in /username/Documents/My Games/Fallout 4 too.

I simply removed «STRINGS\,» from the line.

I keep the Fallout4.ini file read only to prevent some of my game tweaks from being undone so I had to turn that off to edit it, then change it back.

Strange. As of v1.3 of the game, there’s supposed to be nothing at all behind sResourceDataDirsFinal= At least, I have nothing behind it ever since I deleted everything that was there back in January or so.

I’ve kept the Fallout4.ini read only since I first got the game because of several tweaks I did right off following this guide on steam. http://steamcommunit. tscn=1447077828

Though this prevents patches from making changes to it, in the long run, I spend less time fixing any small problems this causes then I would redoing all my tweaks.

All of my mods have worked and still work without anything added to that line. Got 315 mods running of which 254 are plug-ins. Have 500 mods altogether sitting in NMM. With all those I’ve deleted I must be close to 700 mods I used at one time or another. Bar the ones that didn’t work due to the modder screwing up royally, I never had any issues.

I got and still get my info from the STEPS and LOOT websites.

By the way, I’m also using the Improved Map. mod and in my case, it works without additions to the sResourceDataDirsFinal= line

Having completed the final DLC I decided to start a fresh play through now with all DLC’s active.

I decided to use the Courser X-92 Power Suit mod at about level 18 simply because I was tired of the large clunky power armor.

This mod requires CBBE which is a pain in the ass to install manually so I wiped the entire game except for save files, did a fresh install and then grabbed NMM to install mods this time.

Now my «sResourceDataDirsFinal=» is blank as well.

As I said before I’m fairly certain the need to manually list resource folders was carried over from vanilla by the read only settings on the ini files.

PS Now however, I must start the game via NMM or the Launcher, if I start it directly via fallout4.exe it crashes on the loading screen every time.

I had this bug with v1.9.4

I removed the strings folder for Data / Strings and set «sResourceDataDirsFinal=» (blank)

Thank you everybody

edit: just noticed that the strings are placed/edited by the Full Dialogue Interface.

you will have the «lookup failed» message gone but will loose the full dialogues entries when interacting with the NPCs and get back the «lite» vanilla version.

if somebody is familiar with the Fallout4Translater Tool may edit the strings to solve it.

Quote from a post in the FDI Comments:

Here’s how to fix LOOKUP FAILED errors for the game.

— Download Fallout4Translator tool from the Nexus
— Extract it wherever you want
— Go to your Fallout 4 folder > DATA > STRINGS and find the following strings :

This process simply applies string files to official ones, thus whenever Bethesda releases updated string files, you do this process and you will not see LOOKUP FAILED errors in your game.

After the process, delete the outdated string files that you moved from the DATA folder.

This is needed because the latest update added strings for CC content and the new Pip-boy feature.

I’m not and hoping for the mod author coming up with an strings update.
